My trip to the Mallorca - arriving in Palma de Mallorca, Esporles - part 1

In March 2017, I visited Mallorca. Mallorca charmed me with its beauty, so I wanted to share with you my experience with this island. In this article you will learn why visit this island and which time to go to Mallorca.

Mallorca is an island in the Mediterranean Sea. This island is part of the Balearic Archipelago, which forms the islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. Mallorca is the largest and most visited of these islands.

I decided to go to Mallorca in March because I was planning this island walk on foot to the west where are mountains and touristic ways. I Certainly I do not recommend Mallorca to visit in the summer if you want this island walk on the foot. Because of the unbearable heat you would not even finish the trek. Ideal therefore is to visit Mallorca for a trek in early spring or late autumn.

On the contrary, if you are going to Mallorca for rest and sunbathing on the beach, then the summer months are the ideal time to visit Mallorca.

Start my trip to the Mallorca

At the beginning of March I landed at the airport in the capital city of Majorca, which is called Palma de Mallorca. From the airport, I then headed west to the center of this city. Here I had lunch and after that I traveled to the northwest to the town of Esporles.

Originally, I thought that would arrive in Esporles the same day, but there is no tourist marking between Palma de Mallorca and Esporles. That's why I have often wandered and arrived in the city after two days.

On this route me run out of water the first day and in the evening I was totally dehydrated. On my way wasn´t spring or shop where I could supplement the drinking water supply. Main that I stupid was buy a bottle of wine even though I almost died of thirst. The wine is also from the water, I thought, and so I opened the bottle of wine, drinked half and I was totaly drunk.

The next morning, surprisingly, me was not bad. It´s generally known that if you sleep drunk in nature, you wake up without a hangover, because nature will beautifully cleanse you. However, I was thirsty and unable to continue without drinking water. That's why I visited the very first house where I asked for drinking water.

I knocked on the door and opened me some woman around fifty years old. I started talking to her in English that I needed to add potable water, but she did not understand me. That's why I pulled out a empty bottle and showed this the woman. She understood it and poured drinking water into the bottle. I thanked the Spanish "Gracias" and continued on my way.

I started to climb steeply up the hill. The water the woman gave me was probably somewhat miserable because smelled a little but saved my life. I did not hit the other houses in the mountains so I could not ask for any drinking water again.

As I continued the mountains, I met wild goats. They keep distance from people. They are very agile and jump on rocks and trees as true masters.

In this part of Mallorca you can see dozens circular structures made of stones with green circular courtyards. People once lived in these huts, but they later left them and dwelt in the cities. After all, life in the mountains was tough and now no one lives in these huts.

Esporles

Esporles is small town situated in a valley in the middle of the Tramuntana mountains western part of Mallorca. I arrived in this city after two days very dehydrated. I continued the city and found a well. There was a mug at the well, so I figured that in the well is drinking water. At this well, I sat for about half an hour and took a sip of refreshing water.

The attractions of this city are that the local people are counting on the fact that drinking water is poorly available in Mallorca and therefore have in front of their houses barrels of drinking water for thirsty tourists. Especially when you come to the town at the weekend, so you don´t have anywhere shop to get drinking water, except for a restaurant where it is very expensive.

Church of Sant Pere

To among the best attractions of this city are the Church of Sant Pere. It is an ancient church from the sixteenth century. Certainly this church is worth seeing because of its beauty and majesty. In the garden of this church you can see growing citrus trees and orange trees.

Eco farm

It is also worth to visit the eco farm, where growers grow ecologically oranges. I picked up a couple of oranges from the ground and tasted it. I have to say that I did not eat better oranges in my life. Oranges are very delicious and juicy. In the heat when you are dehydrated, you will be refreshed. Therefore, I recommend you visit this farm and buy at least the bucket of these amazing oranges. At least they will not be angry at me that I took some oranges from ground and ate them.

Finally

After two days of rest in this city, I traveled further north-east to the town Valldemossa and then to Deia. About it what I've experienced in these cities, and what sights I've seen you can read in the second part of the article.
