Smothers Road Bridge complete

A construction worker scrapes away small pieces of concrete from the expansion joint at the western end of the new Smothers Road bridge over Hoover Reservoir. He will later install a rubber seal between the bridge and the road surface.

The new bridge over the lake is nearly complete with minor work to be done to the new structure.

The work crew also began dismantling construction barges used as floating platforms beneath the bridge during construction. They are no longer required as the remainder of the work is on the top of the bridge.

Expect to see asphalt being laid this week along the east and west bridge approaches.

Also on the calendar is the addition of a new bike path to the small park on the southeast corner of the roadway. This will eventually connect to the new bike path being built as part of the Sunbury Road expansion.

Depending on weather, a ribbon cutting is planned for mid-July.
