Netflix's upcoming sci-fi meets fantasy flick "Bright" just dropped its official trailer. "Bright" showcases an alternate world where many alien races coexist with humans on Earth; however, xenophobia seems to be rampant and ever-present. The film features an Orc-human crimefighting duo (Smith and Edgerton) who attempt to find the greatest weapon ever known. Read the entire, official synopsis below, provided by Collider:
“Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.”
Directed by David Ayer ("Suicide Squad"), "Bright" stars Will Smith ("Concussion"), Joel Edgerton ("Warrior"), and Noomi Rapace ("Prometheus"). The film also features a large supporting cast, including Kenneth Choi ("American Crime Story"), Lucy Fry ("11.22.63"), Brad William Henke ("Orange is the New Black"), Ike Barinholtz ("The Mindy Project") and comedian Margaret Cho. "Bright's" script is written by Max Landis ("Chronicle").
At the "Bright" film panel during this weekend's San Diego Comic Con, Netflix also premiered a clip from the film. The clip reportedly featured "machine guns, a car, fire, and explosives inside a mini-mart of a gas station," according to Collider. Collider also noted that Lucy Fry's character, a "Bright" aka a user of the aforementioned wand, was also featured as an "elvish" villain, alongside heroine Rapace.
"Bright" premieres December 22 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
