Sandra Bullock Joins Netflix’s ‘Bird Box’

Sandra Bullock (“Gravity”) has just signed on to the post-apocalyptic Netflix film “Bird Box,” according to Variety. The film was originally developed over at Universal by Scott Stuber (“Ted”) before he left to head Netflix’s feature film department. According to Variety, the flick is the first of several films Stuber wants to produce over at Netflix. “Bright” with Will Smith (“Concussion”) and “Outlaw King” with Chris Pine (“Wonder Woman”) are among the long list of movies Netflix will be producing soon.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Bird Box” is based on the 2014 novel by Josh Malerman of the same name. A mother and her two kids are among the few survivors of an alien invasion turned violent Earth apocalypse. The trio must travel 20 miles by rickety rowboat, blindfolded, with only their brains and ears to keep them safe.

Susanne Bier (“The Night Manager”) is set to direct “Bird Box,” which was written by experienced screenwriter Eric Heisserer (“Arrival”). The script reached the top spot on the 2014 Blood List, aka the Black List for the horror genre. Dylan Clark (“War for the Planet of the Apes”), Chris Morgan (“Furious 7”) and Clayton Townsend (“Unbroken”) will produce.

Bullock is a seasoned Hollywood star, best known for her no-nonsense delivery and prolific, varied body of work. She’s been in everything from “While You Were Sleeping,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, to “The Blind Side,” for which she won an Oscar.

Shooting for “Bird Box" will begin this fall.
