WATCH: First Trailer for 'Proud Mary' Starring Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson is headed back to the big screen as an assassin in "Proud Mary."
Working for an organized crime family in Boston, Mary's life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad.
Henson, who starred in last year's Best Picture nominee "Hidden Figures," leads a very recognizable cast. Starring TV alums Billy Brown ("How to Get Away With Murder"), Neal McDonough ("Legends of Tomorrow"), Xander Berkeley ("The Walking Dead"). Danny Glover ("Lethal Weapon") also stars.
Iranian filmmaker Babak Najafi directed "Proud Mary." His last film was the 2016 "London Has Fallen." Prior to that, most of his filmography is comprised of short films. The script was written by John Stuart Newman, Christian Swegal, and Steve Antin. Newman previously wrote for the TV series "Dirty Work." Like Najafi, Swegal has worked mostly on short films. Antin wrote the script for the 2010 film "Burlesque." Some of the most faithful film fans would recognize him as Troy from the 80s classic "The Goonies."
The film is produced by Tai Duncan and Paul Schiff. The pair previously produced "How it Ends" and "Revenge of the Bridesmaids." Schiff also produced "My Cousin Vinny" and the Wes Anderson classic, "Rushmore."
"Proud Mary" is scheduled to hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
