Perennial action star Milla Jovovich ("Resident Evil" series) is set play yet another badass woman. The actor has just boarded "Hummingbird," an action thriller from Swedish directing team Marcus Kryler and Fredrick Åkerström("Reset") that follows a black-ops assassin whose latest target "catapults her on a journey of shocking self-discovery," according to Deadline. The film reportedly follows in the vein of "Lucy" and the "Bourne" franchise.

"Hummingbird" is based off a screenplay from John McClain, whose 2016 draft landed on the Black List. Paul W.S. Anderson ("Resident Evil" series), Jovovich's real-life husband, will be revising the current script for the project. The film will be shopped to potential buyers this month at the Berlin International Film Market, with Lionsgate handling international sales and UTA and CAA co-representing domestic sales. Mark Gao from Fundamental Films and Gregory Ouanhon are producing alongside Todd Garner for Broken Road Productions.

According to THR, Jovovich replaces Olivia Munn ("The Newsroom") and Zoe Saldana ("Star Trek Beyond"), who were both previously attached to play the lead before leaving for other projects. Jovovich is no stranger to the action genre, starring in six installments of "Resident Evil" and the cult classic "The Fifth Element" opposite Bruce Willis ("Die Hard" series). She just wrapped on the "Hellboy" reboot and is also starring in James Franco and Bruce Thierry Cheung's "Future World."

Jovovich is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment. Kryler and Akerstrom are repped by UTA and Magnet Management, and McClain is repped by UTA and Madhouse Entertainment.
