Matt Smith and Suki Waterhouse Join Manson Film 'Charlie Says'

Matt Smith and Suki Waterhouse just signed on for a new film about the Manson case, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Charlie Says" will be directed by Mary Harron. Harron has directed a number of film and television projects, but is best known for her adaptation of "American Psycho," which starred Christian Bale. This film reunites Harron with her "American Psycho" co-writer, Guinevere Turner.
The film is based on two books: Ed Sanders' 1971, "The Family," and Karlene Faith's "The Long Prison Journey of Leslie Van Houten."
Karlene Faith is a prominent focus in the film, and will be played by Emmy-winning actress Merrit Wever. "Charlie Says" tells the story of the so-called Manson Family from the point of view of the three young women who all received the death penalty after the Tate/LaBianca murders in 1969. When the US Supreme Court set aside the death penalty in the 1970s, their sentences were commuted to life imprisonment. Karlene Faith went into the prison to teach the three women, helping them to understand the scope of their crimes.
Kayli Carter, Odessa Young, and Marianne Rendon star along with Carla Gugino and Suki Waterhouse.
The biggest surprise in the casting news came today when it was announced that Matt Smith will play Charles Manson. Smith's breakout role came in the British television series, "Doctor Who." He now stars as Prince Philip in the hit Netflix series, "The Crown."
"Charlie Says" begins filming in Los Angeles this spring.
