ABC Sets Premiere Date for 'American Idol'

ABC finally announced the premiere date for its new takeover of "American Idol."
According to The Wrap, the series returns to television on Sunday, March 11 at 8PM.
Ryan Seacrest will resume his duties as the ultimate reality host, splitting his time between hosting "Idol" and co-hosting "Live With Kelly and Ryan."
"Idol" was cancelled by Fox in 2016 after fifteen seasons. It produced such stars as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson. Fox cancelled it amid declining ratings, as NBC's "The Voice" jumped into the fray. But the show, brought to US television by Simon Cowell and Simon Fuller, won eight Emmys, and received many other nominations.
The new season on ABC will feature new judges, as the perpetually hard-to-please Cowell will not return. Neither will the other originals, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. In their places are country star Luke Bryan, pop star Katy Perry, and the never-out-of-style Lionel Ritchie.
The audition phase of the show began in August. All told, producers will travel to 23 cities around the United States, discovering the nation's best (and worst) singers.
