Vin Diesel and 'Mudbound' Writer Virgil Williams Square Up for NBC's 'Crushers Club'

Vin Diesel ("Fast and the Furious" series) and "Mudbound's" screenwriter Virgil Williams are teaming up for the upcoming drama "Crushers Club" at NBC.

The hourlong series centers on a struggling boxing gym and home away from home for the kids in the rough Chicago neighborhood. The gym will find a friend in single soccer mom Sonia who's found her new life's purpose, according to THR. Williams will write and executive produce the series alongside Diesel via his One Race Television banner. One Race's head Shana C. Waterman has also boarded the project as a co-executive producer. Universal Television, who has deals with Williams and Diesel, will produce.

2017 has been coming up roses for Williams, who's currently riding a wave of critical acclaim with his Netflix film "Mudbound," directed by Dee Rees ("Bessie"). The film has already snapped up the Special Jury Prize at the Gotham Independent Film Awards and was an Overall Audience Favorite at MVFF40. "Crushers Club" is the second series deal Williams made this season, previously selling cop drama "Hard Knocks" to Fox. The screenwriter spent six season on CBS' "Criminal Minds" along with "24," "The Chicago Code" and "ER" before inking a deal with Universal TV.

As for Diesel, "Crushers Club" is the third project currently in development at One Race TV. Diesel's production banner is also rebooting "Miami Vice" with NBC and "Get Christie Love" with ABC.

Williams is repped by CAA, the Shuman Company and attorneys Eric Sherman and P.J. Shapiro. One Race TV is repped by CAA and manager Stacy O'Neill.
