Director Kimberly Peirce to Helm Amazon's 'This is Jane'

 Amazon's "This is Jane" has landed a talented director. Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don't Cry") is set to helm the film adaptation of Laura Kaplan's non-fiction book "The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service," the true story of a secret feminist group who provided abortions before it was legalized. John Lesher of Le Grisbi Productions is attached to produce alongside screenwriter Dan Loflin ("Supernatural") and Sean Murphy, according to Deadline. Peirce will be directing "This is Jane" off of the adapted screenplay by Loflin and Heller.

"This is Jane" tells the story of Chicago activist Heather Booth who founded undergound abortion service "The Jane Collective," where women taught themselves how to perform abortions to help women in need. The group provided health education, counseling and safe but illegal abortions to women denied the procedure by their doctors. The group helped over 11,000 women from 1968-1973 until abortion was legalized via Roe V. Wade. Kaplan, a member of "The Jane Collective," put together the histories of the anonymous women, identifying them only by pseudonyms for the sake of privacy.

Peirce and Lesher have known each another since Peirce's film debut "Boys Don't Cry." Peirce has become a force of nature since her first film, writing and directing "I Love Dick," "Halt and Catch Fire," "Six," the "Carrie" reboot" and "Stop-Loss." 

Peirce is repped by Verve, Writ Large, and law firm Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein. No word yet on a premiere date for "This is Jane."
