'Jigsaw's Latest Game Wins the Box Office

"Jigsaw" took first place at the box office this weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. This weekend saw the lowest box office gross for Week 43 in almost 23 years.
The renaissance of the "Saw" horror franchise earned $16 million in its debut, easily making back its $10M budget. It finished behind most of its predecessors, placing seventh out of eight for opening weekends. Adding $9.5M overseas, and "Jigsaw" had earned $25.7M so far.

In second place was Tyler Perry's "Boo 2! A Madea Halloween." The horror-themed comedy added $10M in its second week, bringing it to a total of $35M.
Disaster flick "Geostorm" moved down to third place with $5.6M. It continues to do well overseas, though, where it has earned $113M.
In fourth place was "Happy Death Day" with $5M. Despite expanding onto an additional 237 screens, the Blumhouse horror movie saw a 45% decrease in ticket sales. Still, as it nears $50M domestic, it is firmly in the middle of the pack for total gross on Blumhouse titles.
"Blade Runner 2049" finished in fifth place with $3.9M. Thanks to international audiences, the sci fi sequel has handily earned back its $150M budget for a worldwide total of $223M. When adjusting for inflation, it is just about tied with its 1982 predecessor.
The Miles Teller film "Thank You For Your Service" debuted in sixth place with $3.7M. It cost $20M to produce and didn't report any international ticket sales.

Josh Brolin's tragic hero tale "Only the Brave" moved from fifth to seventh with $3.4M. Overall it has earned around $12M, putting it at less than half of its $38M budget.
Jackie Chan's "The Foreigner" had an eighth place finish with $3.2M. The film has been popular overseas where it earned 75% of its total take. The film is at $28M domestic and $118M worldwide.
This week's other Top 10 debut film was George Clooney's "Suburbicon." The film had been fairly highly anticipated until reviews starting coming in. The movie modified from a Coen Brothers script earned $2.8M to start. The production budget has not been reported.
And holding onto tenth place on the weekend before Halloween is "It." Adding $2.4M, the surprise hit has earned $323M domestically, and a fitting $666M worldwide.
This week sees a Wednesday opening of "Bad Moms Christmas." Friday's offerings include "Thor: Ragnarok" and the limited release of "Lady Bird."
