WATCH: Mysteries Abound in the Official Trailer for Todd Haynes' 'Wonderstruck'

Amazon Studios unveiled the official trailer and poster for its upcoming film, "Wonderstruck."
From the studio:
"Ben and Rose are children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry."
The film is based on the best-selling novel from Brian Selznick. Selznick also adapted the screenplay. This is his second novel adapted for the screen, following "Hugo," which he did not adapt.
Todd Haynes directed "Wonderstruck." His last film, "Carol," earned six Academy Award nominations. He is also known for ambitious films like "I'm Not There," "Far From Heaven," and "Velvet Goldmine."
The two child stars at the center of the film are Oakes Fegley and Millicent Simmonds. Fegley previously starred in updated live action film "Pete's Dragon." This film marks the debut of Simmonds.
The film also stars Academy Award winner Julianne Moore. Moore reunites with Todd Haynes, who previously directed her in "Far From Heaven" and "I'm Not There." Moore won her Academy Award for the 2014 film "Still Alice," following three previous nominations. She also appears this year in "Suburbicon" and "Kingsman: The Golden Circle."
"Wonderstruck" is an official selection at the upcoming New York Film Festival.
It will be in theaters on October 20.
