WATCH: Alicia Vikander Gets Ready to Fight in 'Tomb Raider' Trailer, New Poster

Lara Croft is back and ready to kick some ass. The new reboot of "Tomb Raider" starring Alicia Vikander ("Ex Machina") has just dropped its official trailer, and it looks like director Roar Uthaug ("The Wave") and writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet ("Captain Marvel") are bringing Laura back to her roots with an origin story.

The "Tomb Raider" trailer follows girl-next-door Laura whose life is shifted off-course by the untimely, mysterious death of her father. His death sets Laura off on a quest to find the mysterious tomb named the Mother of Death with the help of a puzzle, a key and a video message from her late archeologist father. Will Laura save the world from a worldwide threat? (Spoilers: hell yeah, she's Laura Croft.)

"Tomb Raider" is the third film adaptation of the famous "Tomb Raider" video games, with Vikander taking over the role made famous by Angelina Jolie ("First They Killed My Father"). According to EW, the new action film is based on the 2013 video game from the franchise. The reboot will also feature Dominic West ("The Wire") as Croft's late father, Walton Goggins ("The Hateful Eight") as Mathias Vogel, Hannah John-Kamen ("Killjoys") as Sophie and Daniel Wu ("Into the Badlands") as Lu Ren. Vikander previously said of her character's storyline in the reboot:

“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits...but we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought [her father[ was a stuck up businessperson living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.”


Once you see the terrible photoshop job on Vikander's neck, it's hard to look away.

Hopefully the new trailer will be better received than the film's official poster. The recently revealed portrait of Laura Croft earned the ire of her fans due to an epically terrible photoshop job on Vikander's neck. The altered neck slightly resembles a brontosaurus', if you look for long enough.
