US President Donald Trump said late Friday that former British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson would make an "excellent" prime minister to succeed Theresa May, who will resign on June 7 after failing to implement Brexit.
Interviewed by the British tabloid The Sun about the twelve contenders for the post of Theresa May, Donald Trump ruled that "Boris would do a very good job". "I think it would be excellent," he insisted, shortly before starting Monday his first state visit to the UK where he will meet with Ms. May on Tuesday.
Boris Johnson, 54, a big supporter of Brexit, is among the candidates ready to leave the EU without an agreement on 31 October. The former mayor of London has judged a "no deal" that "any reasonable person should keep this eventuality on the table" to renegotiate with Brussels the conditions of divorce.
Not reluctant to meddle in the UK's internal affairs, the US president also said that several suitors for Theresa May's estate had asked for his support, without revealing which ones.....
