Trump will appoint Shanahan to head the Pentagon

Donald Trump will appoint Patrick Shanahan as head of the US Department of Defense, where former Boeing executive has been acting since the resignation of James Mattis in December, the White House announced Thursday.

The person concerned, whom the Pentagon inspectorate suspected of seeking special treatment for Boeing, was recently cleared.

"Given his outstanding record of service and leadership, President Trump intends to appoint Patrick M. Shanahan as Secretary of Defense," said spokesman Sarah Sanders. White House, in a statement.

When he began acting in January as head of the Pentagon, he invited US military strategists to focus on "China, China and China".

Patrick Shanahan, 56, may have trouble getting confirmation of his appointment to the Senate because of his past at Boeing.............
