Turkey wants to buy Russian missiles S-400 and American fighters F-35

Ankara's decision to acquire S-400 missile defense systems from Russia should not lead to US sanctions because Turkey is not an opponent of the United States and remains attached to NATO Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Monday.

While visiting Washington, he added that his country intended not only to buy F-35 stealth fighter aircraft in the United States but also to participate in the production of these aircraft.

The US government warned earlier this month that the deal with Moscow could undermine the purchase of the F-35s from Lockheed Martin and lead to US sanctions.

"We firmly believe that it is really unfortunate to try to tie up (the purchase) of S-400 and the project on the F-35," Hulusi Akar said at a press conference. "We expect the United States and other partners in this project to honor their commitments," he added.
