AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 Semi Final Singapore Vs Indonesia: Shakir Hamzah Injury Update, Return Date

Defender Shakir Hamzah has suffered a knee injury, one which not only rules him out of the forthcoming semi-final on Thursday but will also see him fail to make the cut for the summit clash incase Singapore manage to make it that far. The Football Association of Singapore affirmed that the player would remain on the injury bed for a substantial period following a medical examination.
The 29-year-old defender has suffered injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and meniscus of his right knee with the country yet to provide a return date for the player. Shakir was stretchered off in the 12th minute with his right leg heavily bandaged after a nasty collision with Thitiphan Puangchan during Singapore's 2-0 defeat to Thailand.
The home side had previously seen Gabriel Quak go under the knife to repair a torn labrum, a surgery which also ruled him out for the remainder of the competition. The 30-year-old had dislocated his left shoulder during a friendly against Morocco 'A' with it worsening during his side's 2-1 Group A win over the Philippines.
"I am very disappointed to have suffered this injury and will not be able to help the team in the knockout stages, which I was really looking forward to. I will continue to cheer the team on while I focus on my recovery. I am also thankful for the support and well-wishes I have received, and will do my best to return stronger," Shakir said after news of him exiting the tournament came in.
