A Portrait of our Generation is a documentary series revolving around the concept of identity and nationality. In the context of Swedish student accommodation, documentary photographer Miriam Hauertmann and I have interviewed and photographed twenty individuals aged 20-35 about their identity and the role nationality plays in defining themselves. Growing up in an increasingly globalized world, the boundaries and significance of nationality have become blurred. The project can be seen as a mediating platform in interacting with individuals from all over the world and getting to know tailored insights into personal values and patterns of thought. By asking project participants to write onto their own portraits, the photographic process becomes more inclusive, acting as a form of empowerment for the individual by making their photographs more personal.
