South Africa Native Jonathan Oddi Tried To Ambush Police
A man shouting about Donald Trump and holding a US flag walked into the president’s golf resort in South Florida early Friday and opened fire with a pistol to try and “ambush” police before he was arrested, officials said.

The gunman, who was not a guest was identified as Jonathan Oddi, 42. According to the Miami Herald reported, Oddi waited in the lobby for police to show up before luring them into a gunfight.

The Miami Herald reported that:
Less than a year ago, South Africa native Jonathan Oddi proudly posed behind a backdrop of an American flag, touting his new citizenship. "God bless the USA finally an American!" he wrote on Instagram.

On social media, Oddi lists himself as a fitness instructor, real-estate investor and manager at Pegasus, a business dealing in minerals and gemstones. Oddi lived a few miles away at a rental complex, 8100 NW 53rd St. He was born in South Africa of Italian heritage.
According to reports, Oddi was hit several times in the lower body before being arrested. A Doral police officer broke his wrist in the 1:30 a.m. incident. The injured officer was taken to a hospital and reported to be in good condition. Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez said no workers or guests at the resort were injured.

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez told Miami’s WIOD radio station that the gunman “was ready for war and he was waiting for our officers to come in — ready to engage.” Perez added

"The suspect removed the American flag from the back of the property before entering the lobby, where he draped it over a counter and started shouting anti-Trump rhetoric. He then started firing into the ceiling and chandeliers.”

News video showed Oddi, a resident of nearby at a Doral apartment complex, arriving at Kendall Regional Medical Center on a stretcher and is reported to be in stable condition.

Doral Mayor J.C. Bermudez said authorities do not believe the shooting was related to terrorism, the Miami Herald reported.

“Thank God no one was hurt,” he said.

Eric Trump, the president’s son and executive vice president of the Trump organization, tweeted early Friday: “A huge thank you to the incredible men and women” of the departments, adding that “every day they keep our community safe.”

The Secret Service issued a statement saying, the president was not at the club at the time of the shooting and agents from the Miami Field Office were working closely with other agencies.

The sprawling resort previously known as the Doral Resort & Spa was purchased by the Trump Organization in 2012 and used to host the popular World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.
