Secretary of State Pompeo: Israel Has The Right To Defend Itself
Responding to a question about the shootings of Palestinian protesters near the Gaza Strip border that has left three people dead on Sunday. New Secretary of State Mike Pompeo  who is currently finishing up a tour of the Middle East, said on Monday that Israel has a right to defend itself.

“We do believe the Israelis have a right to defend themselves,” he said at a press availability with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, according to Reuters.

In the last month, 39 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded during violent protest by the Palestinians.

On Friday hundreds of Palestinians stormed a flimsy fence that runs along the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel on Friday, setting parts of the barrier on fire. For what it's worth according to the Palestinian health ministry three people were killed and at least 350 were wounded Friday.

Before accepting these numbers I remind you this is the same Palestine government that claimed.

Israel says it is defending its border and the safety of its citizens, and says it only targets instigators of violence.

Pompeo also offered muted support for the two-state solution:

“With respect to the two-state solution, the parties will ultimately make the decision. We are certainly open to a two-party solution as a likely outcome,” 

President Trump has said in the past that he would be open to a two-state solution to the conflict if both Israel and Palestine were to agree to such a plan.

After President Trump announced it was movings its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem. the Palestine has been using that as an excuse not to cooperate with the U.S. The Palestinians wanted to use Jerusalem as the capital of their own state.
