Tom Hanks' Sci-Fi Movie 'Bios' Gets a Release Date

If there's one genre that Tom Hanks has not thoroughly dominated yet in his career, it's science fiction. We've seen Hanks in a multitude of action (or at least war) films, biopics, comedies, and prestige pictures, but sci-fi has mostly eluded him. There's been some brushes with it, like the recent "The Circle," but he's certainly been prone to other genres, as opposed to this one. Well, as he continues to decide what his next couple of projects will be, a sci-fi movie has become a priority for him. Furthermore, it now even has a release date, to go with a distributor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has set a release date for Hanks' sci-fi title, specifically October 2nd, 2020. The movie is called "Bios" and Hanks will star as the last man on the planet. Miguel Sapochnik directs a script from Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. Among the producers are none other than Robert Zemeckis, so there's some interesting talent attached. This will be an intriguing one to watch evolve over the next two years.

Universal Pictures has announced it will debut Amblin Entertainment's Bios, which stars Tom Hanks as the last man on earth, on Oct. 2, 2020.

Hanks toplines the sci-fi flick Bios as Finch, the last man on earth and an ailing inventor facing his own mortality. Bios is from screenwriters Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, with Robert Zemeckis, Craig Luck, Sapochnik and Andy Berman executive producing.

Kevin Misher, Jack Rapke, Jackie Levine and Ivor Powell are producing. Universal Pictures will distribute domestically and in select international territories.

The project has some potential, so it'll be one to definitely keep an eye on. In fact, the release date suggests that there's even the possibility that Hanks could be a Best Actor contender.
