A24 released the trailer for their upcoming film, "Backstabbing for Beginners."
The film is based on the true story of a UN worker whose investigation into the murder of his predecessor leads him to uncover a massive conspiracy. It delves into the scandal-plagued Oil for Food program introduced during the Clinton Administration.
Theo James leads the cast as Michael. He is best known for his role as Four in the "Divergent" series. Some particularly attentive fans will also recognize him as the Turk, Kemal Pamuk, from the first season of "Downton Abbey." James also starred in "Underworld: Blood Wars," and will soon be seen in the sci fi/romance "Zoe" and the crime/thriller, "London Fields."
Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley stars as high level UN diplomat and Michael's boss. Kingsley won his Oscar for the 1982 film "Gandhi," and was subsequently nominated three additional times. His most recent nomination was for "House of Sand and Fog" in 2003.
"Backstabbing for Beginners" also stars Golden Globe winner Jacqueline Bisset. She has been a star since the sixties, but in recent years has appeared in series and films including "Rizzoli & Isles," and "Welcome to New York." Her Golden Globe win came for the TV mini-series "Dancing on the Edge" in 2013.
The film is directed by Danish filmmaker Per Fly, who co-wrote it with Daniel Pyne. It is based on the memoir by Michael Soussan. Per Fly's film credits include "Monica Z" and "The Inheritance," both of which he co-wrote and directed. Pyne wrote the scripts for "Any Given Sunday," "The Sum of All Fears," and the remake of "The Manchurian Candidate" in 2004.
A24 is releasing "Backstabbing for Beginners" exclusively on DirecTV first, on March 22. They will subsequently release the film in theaters and on demand on April 27.
