WATCH: Melissa McCarthy Forges a Fortune in Official Trailer for 'Can You Ever Forgive Me?'

On Friday, Fox Searchlight released the official trailer for the new film, "Can You Ever Forgive Me?"
Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, a celebrity biographer who fell on hard times when her sources stopped giving her the scoop on the stars of the day. Using her skills, Israel became a world-class forger of notes and celebrity memorabilia, eventually leading to legal trouble. The film is based on Israel's memoir.
McCarthy earned an Academy Award nomination for her comedic role in the 2011 film "Bridesmaids." In 2017, her guest appearances as Sean Spicer on "Saturday Night Live" scored her a Primetime Emmy Award after several nominations. This summer, McCarthy will star in "The Happytime Murders," in a world where people and puppets co-exist. She will also star this summer in "Life of the Party," which she co-wrote with and is directed by her husband, Ben Falcone.
"Can You Ever Forgive Me?" is the long-awaited follow up film from director Marielle Heller. After her stellar debut, "The Diary of a Teenage Girl," Heller immediately signed on to several new projects. This will be the first to hit theaters. She directed episodes of "Transparent" and "Casual," and has three films announced. One stars Daisy Ridley in a fantasy/drama about a remarried widow who has the chance to go back and experience life as it could have been. Another stars Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers.
Nicole Holofcener adapted "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" Her previous writing credits include "Friends with Money" and "Enough Said," which she also directed. In addition, she directed episodes of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Orange is the New Black," and "Parks and Recreation."
The film is distributed by Fox Searchlight and will be in theaters on October 19.
