Netflix Announces New Documentary Series 'Bobby Kennedy for President'

Netflix announced a new original documentary series, "Bobby Kennedy for President."
The company announced the series on the fiftieth anniversary of Robert F. Kennedy's announcement that he would run for President. Kennedy was the clear frontrunner in the 1968 presidential campaign. But he was shot at the Los Angeles Ambassador Hotel just three months later, on June 5. He died the next morning at a local hospital.
The four-part series is directed by Dawn Porter. The documentary director and producer is known for films including "Gideon's Army," "Spies of Mississippi," and "Trapped." In the statement from Netflix, Porter said:
"I am honored that Netflix entrusted me with a story of this scale. Bobby Kennedy remains one of the most important and influential figures in American political history, and we all felt that there was no better time to study his life and legacy. We take care to closely examine his transformation from law-and-order leader to a trailblazer with a progressive focus on civil rights and social justice in a tumultuous time for the country. I gravitate to making films that shed a light on truth and justice, and RFK’s story inspires me personally, and has helped me grow as a filmmaker and a citizen."
The series features archival footage and new interviews with some of RFK's closest colleagues and friends including: Harry Belafonte, Rep. John Lewis, Rep. Neil Gallagher, Dolores Huerta, Ambassador William Vanden Heuvel, Paul Schrade, Franklin A. Thomas, William Arnone, Marian Wright Edelman, and Peter Edelman.
The series is produced by RadicalMedia, Trilogy Films, and LooksFilm.
