The short subject documentary that's been raking in praise at every festival screening has released an exclusive trailer to Awards Circuit. "Edith + Eddie," the heartfelt story of two elderly lovebirds, is a heavyweight contender in this year's Oscar® race for Best Documentary Short. Watch the trailer below.

"Edith + Eddie" follows America's oldest interracial newlyweds who found love at ages 96 and 95. The pair, whose passionate, steady love should've been celebrated by their loved ones, soon find themselves torn apart in a vicious family feud. What should have been their final golden years together soon devolves into a painful guardianship abuse case. Executive producers Steve James ("The Interrupters"), Gordon Quinn ("Independent Lens"), Betsy Steinberg and Cher ("Moonstruck"), producer Thomas Lee Wright ("New Jack City") and director/producer Laura Checkoway ("Lucky") describe the couple's story as a nightmare happening across the country. Cher, who's also bankrolling the documentary's awards campaign, said of "Edith + Eddie":
They were truly in love. What happened to them is horrible — it's elder abuse and it's happening all over. We're hopeful this film can make a difference.
The documentary has been warmly received this awards season, winning the award for best short at this year's IDA Awards and a nomination nod from Cinema Eye Honors. "Edith + Eddie" also won awards at Hamptons International Film Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest, Tallgrass Film Festival, Montclair Film Festival, Nevada City Film Festival and Rhode Island International Film Festival after its world premiere at the True/False Film Festival. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has also recognized "Edith + Eddie," putting the documentary on its shortlist for best Documentary Short Subject. We'll just have to wait and see if this illuminating doc makes the final nomination cut come Jan. 23.
