Dwight Williams and Jim Tanker to be Honored at 70th DGA Awards

Dwight Williams and Jim Tanker will be honored for extraordinary contribution to the guild, and for lifetime career achievement at the 70th DGA Awards.

Dwight Williams will receive the 2018 Frank Capra Achievement Award. Jim Tanker will receive the 2018 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award.

Williams served for many years as a unit production manager and assistant director. He also produced several films including "Hustle & Flow," "Jason's Lyric," and "New Jack City." He has been a DGA member since 1971, serving on several committees. He is currently an active participant on the Guild's African American Steering Committee.

Jim Tanker has been a member of DGA for 40 years, serving as director of the DGA Awards for the past five years. He has worked as Associate Director of just about every major award show from the Academy Awards to the Kennedy Center Honors, and even worked on the opening and closing ceremonies of both the Atlanta and Salt Lake City Olympic Games.

DGA President Thomas Schlamme made the announcement today saying:
Dwight Williams and Jim Tanker are leaders in their fields who have dedicated themselves to representing the interests of their fellow members and standing up for their creative and economic rights. The Directors Guild draws its strength from the service and dedication of its members, and our special award winners exemplify that spirit at its highest level.

The awards will be presented at the 70th DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
