WATCH: Joaquin Phoenix Goes Vigilante in Official Trailer for 'You Were Never Really Here'

Amazon Studios released the first official trailer for its upcoming thriller, "You Were Never Really Here."
Joaquin Phoenix stars as Joe, a traumatized war veteran who devotes his life to rescuing girls out of the sex trade. Everything changes when something goes wrong on a job, and Joe sets out to uncover a major conspiracy. The film is an adaptation from the novella by Jonathan Ames.
Phoenix won the Best Actor prize for this film when it premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. He has not been seen much since "Inherent Vice" in 2014. But 2018 promises to be something of a resurgence for the three-time Academy Award nominee. He will star in two films with Rooney Mara: "Mary Magdalene" from Garth Davis, and "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot" from Gus Van Sant.
"You Were Never Really Here" was written and directed by Lynne Ramsay. This, her fourth feature film, earned her the award for Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival. Her last film, "We Need to Talk About Kevin" scored a Golden Globe nomination for star Tilda Swinton, as well as three BAFTA nominations.
Jonny Greenwood provides the score for the film. He previously collaborated with Ramsay on "We Need to Talk About Kevin." Greenwood also wrote the score for the soon-to-be-released "Phantom Thread."
Amazon Studios purchased the distribution rights to the film before it was completed. Originally, A24 was said to be interested in the project, but Amazon ultimately won out. They also distributed "Last Flag Flying," "Wonder Wheel," and last year's Best Picture nominee, "Manchester by the Sea."
"You Were Never Really Here" will be in theaters April 6, 2018.
