Fox Gives 'The Orville' a Second Season

Fox has renewed Seth Macfarlane's space series "The Orville" a second season, according to Deadline.
"The Orville" is a second rate exploratory ship, wandering the universe 400 years in the future. Macfarlane plays the captain of the motley crew of explorers in the dramatic comedy that serves as a spoof of sorts of the various "Star Trek" series.
In addition to starring, Macfarlane also created the series for the Fox network. Known best for his animated shows "Family Guy," "American Dad!" and "The Cleveland Show," this is his first live action television series.
The renewal of "The Orville" is certainly worth celebrating for all involved. Fox is known for ruthlessly cancelling series that aren't instant hits. Some of their most notable fast cancellations include "Doll House," "Drive," and "Firefly."
The series renewal came seven episodes into the first season's 13-episode run. In discussing the decision, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn explained:
"Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers. He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can’t wait to see where 'The Orville' travels in the second."
There is no word yet on how many episodes the second season will have.
