'Hitman's Bodyguard' Tops Slowest Box Office Weekend in Years

"The Hitman's Bodyguard" won the weekend Box Office for the second week in a row, according to Box Office Mojo. When comparing this weekend to previous years, it is the lowest grossing Week 34 since 1992.
"The Hitman's Bodyguard" brought in $10 million, taking its total to just under $40 million. The last time a film won the box office with less than $11 million was in 2014 when "Ouija" finished it's second week with $10.7M.
"Annabelle: Creation" maintained second position, adding $7.5 million to its three-week total. The horror flick from the "Conjuring" franchise has earned more than $200 million worldwide.
The only debut in this week's Top 5 is the third place finisher "Leap!" The animated film earned $5 million domestically, but has fared much better overseas. Its worldwide total is just under $60 million.
"Wind River" expanded its run this week, adding 1400 screens. The move brought it up to fourth place with $4.4 million. The Jeremy Renner-led drama has earned just under $10 million in four weeks, most of which were in limited release.
"Logan Lucky" rounds out the Top 5 just slightly behind with $4.3 million. Steven Soderbergh's return to cinema has failed to win over audiences, earning $15 million in its first two weeks.
The rest of the Top 10 includes "Dunkirk" with $3.9M and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" with $2.7M.
"Birth of the Dragon" was this weekend's other debut. It opened in eighth place with $2.5 million. Blumhouse did not release budget details on the fictionalized Bruce Lee story, but this is hardly a solid beginning.
Finishing out the Top 10, "The Emoji Movie" dropped into ninth place with $2.3M and "Girls Trip" held on with $2.2M.
Next week's Labor Day Weekend offerings are slim. Sony is doing a limited anniversary re-release of the Spielberg classic "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." And The Weinstein Company might stick to the plan to release its long-awaited period drama "Tulip Fever."
