After airing just 2 episodes of their first season, Epix's tv adaptation of "Get Shorty" has already earned a second season, according to EW. The tv series follows in the footsteps of Elmore Leonard's original novel, along with Barry Sonnenfeld's famous film adaptation. But unlike its previous iterations, the Epix series focuses on the essence and general themes of its source material while branching out in new directions, plotwise.

Epix's "Get Shorty" stars Ray Romano ("Everybody Loves Raymond") as beleaguered movie producer Rick Moreweather and Chris O'Dowd ("Calvary") as Miles Daly, a Nevada hitman trying to go legit and break into Hollywood. The series was created by Davey Holmes ("Shameless"), with Elmore Leonard ("Justified") doing the bulk of the show's writing. Just like its first season (which began Aug. 13), Season 2 will feature ten episodes.

Epix, who produces "Get Shorty," is owned by parent company MGM, and is used to introduce original programming that can be syndicated for other markets, according to Variety. In a statement released Wednesday, Epix president Mark Greenberg praised the tv series, saying:
‘Get Shorty’ is our most successful original scripted series to date, and continues to deliver phenomenal performances. We are thrilled to be working again with MGM Television, Davey Holmes, Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano and the Get Shorty team on a second season.

"Get Shorty" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on Epix. Season 2 will premiere sometimes next year, with ten new episodes.
