Netflix’s ‘Ozark’ Starring Jason Bateman Renewed for Second Season

One more show has avoided the Netflix chopping block. Netflix’s “Ozark” starring Jason Bateman (“Arrested Development”) has been renewed for a second season, according to Variety. "Ozark" was executive produced and often directed by leading man Bateman, with Chris Mundy (“Criminal Minds”) penning the series. Bill Dubuque (“The Accountant”) and Mark Williams (“Harry Potter” series) also executive produce, with Bateman’s Aggregate Films producing in conjunction with Media Rights Capital for Netflix. The show’s second season will feature 10 episodes, just like its predecessor.

“Ozark” follows Marty (Bateman) and wife Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney, “The Savages”) after a sudden move to the suburbs. Marty, a financial planner, found himself in some hot water over a money laundering scheme with a Mexican drug lord and must hide the family from impending danger. Has Marty hidden his family in plain sight, or are they sitting ducks in a predator’s pond?

Netflix has recently made headlines for cancelling a number of shows, most notably Naomi Watts’“Gypsy,” “Sense8,” “Girlboss” and “The Get Down.” The streaming platform has been killing off shows without any warning, angering many of their fans. “Sense8’s” fanbase even began a worldwide campaign that led to Netflix greenlighting a two hour wrap-up special for the critically acclaimed series. But luckily, Ozark won’t have to deal with cancellation worries- at least until next year.
