WATCH: MGM Releases Trailer for 'Death Wish' Reboot from Eli Roth

MGM is bringing new life to the 1974 Charles Bronson film, "Death Wish."

The film is not so much a remake as a reimagining of the Brian Garfield novel of the same name. It is the story of Dr. Paul Kersey who turns into a vigilante out for justice when his wife and daughter are savagely attacked in their home.

Bruce Willis stars as the good doctor. Willis became an unexpected action star when he moved from more humorous roles to become John McCLane in the "Die Hard" franchise. Over the years he has gone back and forth between action and comedy, with some occasional drama in the mix. But the last year or two have seen mostly action from the star who once won a Golden Globe for the TV series "Moonlighting."

Playing Paul's wife, Lucy, is Academy Award nominee Elisabeth Shue. The actress will also appear in this fall's "Battle of the Sexes," alongside Steve Carrell and Emma Stone. "Death Wish" also stars Vincent D'Onofrio ("Daredevil") and Dean Norris ("Breaking Bad").

Eli Roth directs the film from a script by Joe Carnahan ("The A-Team"). Roth's previous directing credits include "Hostel" and "Cabin Fever." Roth recently talked to Yahoo Movies about casting Bruce Willis in this film:
“We wanted to bring back that great, classic Bruce Willis we all know and love and just do a fun, badass update of a revered classic. I wanted to bring Bruce back to that 'Fifth Element,' 'Unbreakable,' 'Die Hard' glory and have him craft another iconic performance, and I really think he did it. I mean I really think this can be his 'Taken.' The fun is watching him go crazy and watching someone slowly move the moral goal post.”
"Death Wish" will be released on November 22.
