The Surge [1]
von Claudia Wendt

The Surge from Deck 13 is a tough action role-playing game. This catapults the player into a dark science fiction setting.
The earth is facing the abyss. Only the mega-corporation CREO is a ray of hope to save them. To do this, he fuses man and machine. The planet's atmosphere is to be renewed and restored. Warren merges with a futuristic exoskeleton, which gives him unimagined powers. His colleagues turn into high-tech zombies and assassinate the other employees. Warren tries to figure out the cause of the disaster.
In The Surge, the story takes a back seat. With the help of video screens and audiologs, the story is told bit by bit and the secret of the company Warren works for is revealed. The levels are made of concrete and steel. There is not much nature to see here. There are shortcuts and secret passages everywhere to access various buildings and complexes. The service station provides Warren security. The priority in the game is action and fighting. There are enough opponents here.
The enemies and the fights are well animated, which is a great strength of The Surge. Different opponents have different attack patterns that you need to recognize in order to defeat them. In his fights, Warren refills his energy bar, which allows him to use certain implants. Life points and attack power can also be pushed with it.
Summary
Similar to Lords of the Fallen, the protagonist fights his way through the different levels. The story hides a bit in the background, while the action and fighting are at the forefront. The character of the protagonist does not come into its own here and there is also a lack of quests. Despite this, it has become a fun action RPG that is well worth playing.
