Six French ISIS sentenced to death in three days in Iraq

Half of the 12 French transferred from Syria to Iraq were sentenced to death in three days for joining the Islamic State (IS), Paris ensuring "multiply the steps" to avoid the death penalty to its nationals.
Brahim Nejara, 33, accused by French intelligence of having facilitated the sending of jihadists to Syria, and Karam El Harchaoui, who will turn 33 on Thursday, were sentenced to death Tuesday by a court in Baghdad, after being transferred in late January from Syria, where they were being held by an Arab-Kurdish anti-jihad alliance.
On Sunday and Monday, Kévin Gonot, Leonard Lopez, Salim Machou and Mustapha Merzoughi were also sentenced to death by hanging.
All have 30 days to appeal, and the French lawyer Leonard Lopez has already announced that he would.

Six other French transferred from Syria will be tried in the coming days in Iraq, where anyone who joined a "terrorist" organization - whether or not he fought - is punishable by death.
Tuesday, the head of French diplomacy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, assured on France Inter radio that Paris "multiplied (has) the steps to avoid the death penalty" to the French.
Baghdad has already sentenced more than 500 IS foreigners - men and women - but none have been executed so far.......
