Germany: the processing of some Syrian asylum applications interrupted

Germany has decided this week to stop processing some asylum applications from Syrian refugees, according to the regional media group Funke.

The persons concerned are asylum-seekers facing in their country serious dangers, acts of war, the death penalty or torture.
Status quo pending further review of the security situation in their country.

Citing the German Ministry of the Interior, the same source said Saturday that some of these asylum applications made by Syrians have been "postponed", amendments to be made to the guidelines of the Ministry.

Applicants under "subsidiary protection"

The persons concerned are asylum-seekers who have been granted "subsidiary protection", namely those who have been confronted in their country with serious dangers, acts of war, the death penalty or torture. According to government figures, 17,411 Syrians received this status in 2018.....
