Russian inquiry: Moscow asks Washington for explanations

Moscow has asked the United States for explanations about the charges against a Russian lawyer involved in the investigation into Russian interferences in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Natalia Vesselnitskaya was indicted on Tuesday for obstructing justice in a case unrelated to the investigation, which could however demonstrate its links with the Kremlin.

During her weekly press briefing, Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, lamented Friday that the charging of Russian citizens on the basis of vague suspicions becomes a habit in the United States.
