Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe wants a peace treaty with Russia

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced Friday his intention to advance the draft peace treaty with Russia at a summit to be held in Russia this month.
The draft peace treaty, which officially ends the Second World War between the two countries, has been blocked for decades because of a territorial dispute over the South Kuril Islands.
On the occasion of its 25th summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Shinzo Abe will put on the table the question of these islands called Northern Territories in Japan, which Soviet troops seized in the last days of the war.
