Fortnite boss SLAMS Google for scoring 'cheap PR points' by exposing a security flaw in the game

Earlier this month, a version of the popular game, Fortnite , was released for Android , much to the delight of eager fans.

But Google has discovered a security flaw in the Android version, which the firm was quick to make public.

Now, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games has slammed Google, claiming that the firm scored ‘cheap PR points’ by exposing the flaw.

Mr Sweeney tweeted: “Android is an open platform. We released software for it. When Google identified a security flaw, we worked around the clock (literally) to fix it and release an update.

“The only irresponsible thing here is Google’s rapid public release of technical details.”

He added: “We asked Google to hold the disclosure until the update was more widely installed. They refused, creating an unnecessary risk for Android users in order to score cheap PR points.”

While Mr Sweeney acknowledged that Epic Games was responsible for the security flaw, he questioned Google’s decision to release the technical details.

He said: “That does nothing but give hackers a chance to target unpatched users.”

A spokesperson for Google told Mirror Online: "User security is our top priority, and as part of our proactive monitoring for malware we identified a vulnerability in the Fortnite installer.

"We immediately notified Epic Games and they fixed the issue.”
