Alia Bhatt is an actor, singer of Indian origin and British nationality, working in Indian films. India's highest-paid actress, as of 2019, her awards include four Filmfare Awards. She has appeared on Forbes India's celebrity 100 lists since 2014 and included Forbes Asia in the list of 30 under 30 years in 2017.
Born in the Bhatt family, she is the daughter of director Mahesh Bhatt and actor Sonny Rizwan. After starring as a child in the 1999 movie Sangharsh, Bhatt played her first lead role in teen drama Karan Johar (2012). She went on to star in several of Johar's films produced by Dharma Production Studio, including The Two-country romances (2014), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), and the upcoming drama about age Dear Zindagi (2016)). Bhatt won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her role as Kidnap Victim in a Dramatic Highway (2014), and the Three Best Actress Awards at Bihari Immigrant Play Ceremony in Crime Drama Udta Punjab (2016) Thriller Raazi (2018), and the troubled friend for the aspiring rapper in the musical drama Gully Boy (2019).

In addition to playing in movies, Bhatt has launched her own line of clothing and bags and the founder of the CoExist Environmental Initiative. She sang six of her cinematic songs, including the single "Samjhawan Unplugged" in 2014, and participated in theatrical performances and concert tours.
Bhatt was born on March 15, 1993, in Bombay (today's Mumbai) to Indian film director Mahesh Bhatt and actor Sony Rizwan. Her father is of Gujarati origin and her mother is of Kashmir Pandit and of German origin. Director Nanabhai Bhatt is her grandfather. She has an older sister, Shaheen (born 1988) [and two of her half-sisters, Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. Actor Imran Hashemi and director Mohit Suri are cousins to the father, while producer Mukesh Bhatt is her uncle. Bhatt was educated at Jambana Narsi School in Mumbai. She has British citizenship.
