Dave Chappelle Sticks & Stones

Dave Chappelle Sticks & Stones

Dave Chappelle changes the game, again.

Dave Chappelle is having a stellar year. Not long after making his Broadway debut, the people's champ will soon bless Netflix with a new stand-up special titled, "Sticks and Stones." -Really soon. Like less-than-two-weeks-from-now soon. The old rules of marketing and promoting a show don't apply to Netflix and mega-talent like Chappelle. No need to waste time and money telling people what's coming or parade talent around talk shows for weeks, nope. With Chappelle you simply release a trailer and a date, and voila, mass hysteria! So just as he forever changed the landscape of television with Chappelle Show, Dave has reinvented comedy marketing.
As we've seen with comedy clubs recently, you don't book joe-blow and throw advertising dollars everywhere, you get JOE Fricking BLOW, a comic with chops and a name that speaks for itself, and the people will come. Dave is a name that draws everyone, and his comedy speaks for itself. Netflix knows this and they're making mad loot as a result.

Sticks & Stones is a BDay Gift

Today the streaming network announced Chappelle’s new special, Sticks & Stones, will drop two days after Dave's birthday (8/24) on Monday, August 26. Marking Chappelle’s fifth Netflix special so far. As we've seen in the past few weeks, Netflix has no problem cancelling underperforming shows (see Netflix Bloodbath from refinery29.com) so it's safe to say Dave is killing the ratings game. It's also really good to see Chappelle continue to be Chappelle. He's the same dude that had Barbershops playing Def Jam clips over and over again 30 years ago. He's still edgy, still relatable, and still funny as shit.
The "Sticks & Stones" comedy special follows Deep in the Heart of Texas and The Age of Spin, stand-up specials released in early 2017. Those were followed by Equanimity and The Bird Revelation, also released in 2017, on New Year’s Eve. We're excited about this iteration of Chappelle's stand-up because 'A', Morgan Freeman voices the promo. Who doesn't respect the voice of God? And "B", ITS DAVE FRICKING CHAPPELLE! One of the few "Def Jam" era comics who can still murder a stand-up stage!

TheySoFunny.com wish-list for Dave Chappelle

Dave knows what he's doing, we know this. But there's three topics we'd love to hear him talk about. Louis CK. Dave caught lots of flak for kinda-sorta defending Louis CK and his sexual misconduct allegations in the past, we wonder if his thoughts have changed since Louis obviously doesn't give a damn. Donald Trump. I know, we hear about POTUS all-day, every-day, but wouldn't it be nice to hear the perspective of a GREAT comic? And lastly, we want to hear Dave's take on the world of television. Things have really tanked since Chappelle Show left the airwaves. Between fake-reality tv, remakes and copy-cat writing, television is in a strange place, wonder what Dave has to say about that.

Good guys win

It's really good to see Chappelle get so much acclaim this year, almost makes up for the years he disappeared. The Grammy award-winning comic, writer, actor and producer also appeared in last year’s "A Star Is Born" opposite Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. In addition to the Netflix special, it was announced back in May that Chappelle will receive this year’s prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, which will be handed out at the Kennedy Center on Sunday, October 27, and later broadcast on PBS January 6, 2020.

So, make sure your mother pays her Netflix bill and don't piss her off. It'll suck monkey-balls if she changes the password before you witness the magic known as Dave Chappelle performing stand-up comedy. Mark your calendars, tell Dave happy birthday August 24th, then watch his latest Netflix special August 26th, Dave never disappoints.
