While the BBC is planning to charge over 75s for their TV licence, Gasworks London is offering them a complimentary gas appliance inspection

Much to his surprise, this summer Dave Halpin of Gasworks London found himself trending on Twitter. Following the news that the BBC had decided to make over 75s pay for their TV licence, Dave tweeted that he would be offering those same senior citizens a free gas appliance check.

‘The next thing I knew there was a fantastic reaction on social media, including tweets from the actress Emilia Fox and the adventurer Ben Fogle. I didn’t expect it at all. We’ve already discovered some potentially dangerous situations, so it’s been very worthwhile. If you know someone over 75 who would appreciate a free gas appliance safety check, do get in touch. The offer is valid for any W postcode (W1-W14) and, though we won’t be checking passports, it might help if you can name two members of The Shadows!’

Dave and his experienced team are experts at repairing boilers of all makes and ages and installing new models. They provide a 24-hour service throughout West London, focusing in particular on the Chiswick area. ‘We take pride in the friendly way that we deal with our customers – I think that’s why we have so many word-ofmouth recommendations.

‘We do our utmost to deliver a high quality service and our pricing structure is transparent: we don’t charge an upfront fee like many other companies and, if a job only takes us five minutes to finish, we won’t charge for the full hour.’ Intentionally, Gasworks is a small operation. ‘I enjoy getting my hands dirty on repairs and installations,’ admits Dave. ‘And I like to know what’s going on with every client. That way I can ensure everything is done to the standard that I’d expect in my own home.

‘The best thing about my job is the satisfaction I get when we crack a complex problem that has baffled other engineers. Sometimes, it’s like solving a crime – like CSI Chiswick!’
