Carlinville police looking for overnight shooter

CARLINVILLE -- Macoupin County authorities are searching for a suspect relating to an overnight shooting in Carlinville.


Carlinville Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Johnson Street at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday night where a man was reported shot.


Upon arrival, officers at the scene identified the shooting victim as 37-year-old Dana Morgan Jr., according to our media partners at WLDS.


Officers began life-saving measures on Morgan until backup would arrive in the form of Carlinville Fire Protection District and the Gillespie-Benld Area Ambulance. Morgan was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.


Carlinville Police Department has identified a person of interest in the shooting. The incident continues to be under investigation.
