For modern jobs, you need to be excellent with communication. From the shop floor to the executive lounge, knowing how to speak to others at all levels is a huge advantage. For example, diesel mechanic jobs require excellent knowledge of problems and solutions concerning vehicles. But your CEO may not necessarily be well-versed in how cars work. So you must be able to express what you need to at different levels of professional understanding.

Problems can arise at any time in all industries. This is why employers today often list problem-solving as a core skill in job descriptions. Management and seniors love employees that can analyze a situation and provide quick short-term solutions to long-term problems. Most people are bad public speakers. There are many reasons for this, such as being inexperienced, nervous, and simply not knowing how to prepare. And this doesn't mean "public" in the truest sense of the word. It also refers to speaking in meetings or being tasked with a presentation. If your new employer doesn't have to pay money to train you in these, you are already in a favorable position. So always highlight this in your resume if you have experience.


Transferable skills are desirable by modern employers. More than what you can do, these include soft skills such as working as a team, managing projects, and public speaking. Any of these can help ensure your application is processed, and you get that important interview.
