PANA -- Pana residents will have a cavalcade of events at their disposal this weekend. There is no shortage of entertainment and activities in store for the weekend.

The music department for the junior and senior high schools is presenting its spring honors concert Friday, May 12 at Pana High School. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

The concert will feature all of the junior high band programs, the junior high choir programs, high school choir, high school jazz band, senior percussion ensemble, and high school band. End-of-year award presentations will also be given. The groups are under the direction of choir director Angela Chase and band director Tony Hicks.

The concert will also mark a farewell to ten outgoing seniors as a part of the Class of 2023. Outgoing choir seniors are Legacy Ballew, Madison Carter, Aaliyah Cooks, Paige Moss, Damion Pizzo, and Jeffrey Schmidt. Ballew, Carter, Pizzo, and Schmidt are among the eight outgoing band members. The other members are Jaylen Boswell, Madison Clark, Torrance Smith, and Tessa Strom.

The public is welcome to attend and support the students and staff. Admission is free with free-will donations always welcome. A short reception sponsored by Pana Music Boosters will follow in the common area.

The Pana Chamber of Commerce is hosting Heritage Day on Saturday, May 13 in downtown Pana.

The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature food trucks, a petting zoo, vendor booths, games, and special guests such as Spiderman and Disney Princesses.

Simultaneously, the Lincoln Prairie Trail Conservancy is hosting a bike rodeo for children up to age 12 at Anarchy Games, 309 S. Poplar. That event will be running from 10 a.m. until noon.

Free bicycle helmets will be given away to the first 50 children in attendance. The giveaway is sponsored by Pana Community Hospital.

During the bike rodeo event, bicycles will be checked for compliance to safety standards prior to navigating through a safety course.

Children completing the course will be eligible to win a free bicycle, donated by the Pana Eagles, Pana Knights of Columbus, Taylorville Community Credit Union, First National Bank of Pana, and Peoples Bank and Trust.

If history is your thing, then the Pana Historical Society has something to tickle your fancy. They are sponsoring a virtual history scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Teams may sign up and pay their entry fee on the day of the scavenger hunt in front of the Pana News-Palladium building. The teams, which can go up to but not exceed six people, must complete the scavenger hunt by 3 p.m.

Teams that complete the scavenger hunt will compete for gift cards from area businesses. Proceeds from the scavenger hunt will go toward continuing preservation of Pana history.
