EDITORIAL: Total chaos in the newsroom and home studio, weighing goods and bads
(Heartland Newsfeed) -- The past few weeks have been total, absolute chaos -- but for some odd reason, this chaos has actually been good for me. That's rare. I have to evaluate the goods against the bads and that's fine. (Even if they serve as separate entities part of an inner monologue.)
GOOD JAKE: I've secured a broadcast deal with iMedia1 Radio Network to carry football games from a semi-professional league called the Gridiron Developmental Football League, with coverage starting with a pre-season game in late April.
BAD JAKE: I need to sell advertising and sponsorships to make this worthwhile. If you've watched our video simulcasts on Twitch, YouTube, DLive, Mixer and other platforms, sponsorships are available for $85 per game or $750 for the entire 2020 season (which includes the single pre-season game). The season runs from May through July.
GJ: I have become a contributing writer for Ambush Sports and Midwest Sports Network in the past couple weeks. Both are sports websites that crank out great content, and it allows me to feature my talent as a writer and journalist at an additional venue outside of here. It does, in turn, open up opportunities for them to extend their sportswriting expertise for our site as well.
BJ: It gets incredibly hectic jumping around three different newsrooms.
GJ: When I crank out content, regardless of venue, it's good for business. After all, look at the barrage of content I've contributed to Ambush in such a short time. Wouldn't be surprised if it becomes that way with MWSN as well.
GJ: We've sold some ads recently on the website and people are calling in on the remnant advertising spots we've been airing.
BJ: Probably not as much as I'd like.
GJ: Money is money, regardless.
BJ: I've kinda neglected local news lately.
GJ: I'm working on that.
BJ: I've kinda neglected my plans to broadcast sports, specifically high school sports.
GJ: One step at a time. GDFL is a good start to get sports events on the network, even if it's live on social media and on tape delay on the radio network.
BJ: But I've got this political stuff coming up. I've got to prep the Libertarian Party of Illinois for their ballot access battle for November. I've got to prepare for the press conference in June as their political director. I've got a political campaign and ballot access drive to prepare for myself. I'm the state campaign coordinator for Mark Whitney's race for the Libertarian nomination and...
GJ: Snap out of it! You did this before in 2018. You were part of the editorial staff that endorsed Kash Jackson for governor. You called out one of the largest media organizations in America for excluding a Libertarian candidate from a debate in Texas. You stood in 20 DEGREE WEATHER, soaking wet in Quincy, Ill., protesting the gubernatorial debate because Jackson and Conservative Party candidate Sam McCann were excluded. You managed a 14-county cluster for all of the statewide campaigns and damn well.
BJ: What was that for?
GJ: For thinking that you can't do this when you ran this whole outfit, did candidate recruitment, STILL chose to run for office as a write-in candidate, managed a cluster of counties for statewide candidates and let's not forget the willingness to take the next step to lead candidate recruitment and again later in the year to become political director. That kind of clout is what got you on the Whitney campaign. Now suck it up and get back to work.
