Applications now available for 2018-19 Montgomery County CEO class
HILLSBORO (Heartland Newsfeed) -- The Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO) Board of Directors welcomes student applications to participate in the 2018-2019 CEO Class.

The Montgomery County CEO class is a year-long course which takes high school seniors out of the typical school environment and into one focused on solving real world problems with business-based solutions.  Students partner with local business leaders as part of the learning process.

Students will visit area businesses, learn from guest speakers, plan and run a class business and start and operate their own businesses.  Business concepts learned through the CEO class are critical; the 21st century skills of problem solving, teamwork, self-motivation, responsibility, higher order thinking, communication and inquiry are at the heart of student development throughout the course.

The class will meet for 1 ½ hours each school day from 7:50-9:20 a.m. in a variety of businesses located throughout Montgomery County. The class is financially supported by our CEO Business Investors and Friends of CEO. Businesses also provide expertise, meeting space, business tours and one-on-one mentoring.

“This isn’t a program necessarily looking for straight-A, college-bound students,” explained Heather Hampton-Knodle, Chair of the CEO Board of Directors.  “We are sure to have some of those students but it is not always the most academically focused students that prosper and succeed in this environment.  We are looking for students with drive, determination, creative thinking skills and an interest in business and entrepreneurship.”

Applications for current high school juniors attending Hillsboro, Litchfield, Nokomis and Panhandle schools are available accessing via this link.  Future students must be able to dress and act appropriately, be extremely punctual and be able to provide their own transportation (or carpool) to class meeting sites.  Applications must be completed in full and returned to your guidance counselor on or before February 28, 2018.  Students will be notified of their acceptance status by March 30, 2018.
