Hopefuls in Libertarian gubernatorial nomination race participate in first of three debates

CHAMPAIGN (Heartland Newsfeed) -- The first of three public debates for the Libertarian Party gubernatorial nomination was held Tuesday night for the three candidates vying for the nomination -- Jon Stewart of Deerfield, Matthew C. Scaro of Chicago and Grayson "Kash" Jackson of Antioch -- at Gregory Hall on the campus of the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign.

The theme of the night surrounded big business, but other points of discussion of the night included solutions to the state's current deficit, plans for the state pension system, race relations and occupational licensing.

The debate was coordinated by the Libertarian Party of Illinois and hosted by the Illini Libertarians and Champaign County Libertarian Party. The debate was moderated by McLean County Libertarian Party chairman Bennett Morris.

A second debate in planned for the Metro-East region in January and a final debate planned in northern Illinois in February prior to the party's state nominating convention being held in Bloomington on March 2-3.
