ATP Cup 2022 is the third edition of the tournament and it will be played between 16 teams from January 1-January 9 at the Ken Rosewall Arena and the Sydney Super Dome in Sydney in Australia. Chris Kermode, director of the ATP decided to come with the men's tennis tournament team event after the format of the Davis Cup was changed. The tournament was initially named World Tennis Cup which resembled similar to World Tennis Cup held between 1978-2012.

ATP Cup History, Format, Teams And Groups

However, the name was changed to ATP Cup with the ATP joining hands with Tennis Australia. 24 teams from various countries took part in the tournament. The participating teams are decided based on the team's best player's single's rank, the week after the conclusion of the US Open.
18 teams are announced based on the rankings and for a country to qualify, three players should have ATP ranks and two of them should have a singles ranking. The next six teams would be announced the week of the ATP Cup. The host will be awarded a wild card entry if it doesn't qualify by the September deadline and the other countries will fight for the remaining five spots by November end.
6 groups each of four teams will be formed and teams will compete with each other playing two singles and one double match. Number 2 players from both teams will start the format and then the doubles will be played irrespective of the result. The winners from the six groups along with the two best second-placed teams will fight the quarterfinals.
