Yan was also ranked fourth in the world in both rapid chess and blitz chess at one point of time with him having two silver medals in the World Rapid Championship and a silver medal at the World Blitz Championship. In had finished second in the FIDE Grand Prix 2019 while winning the 2021 FIDE Candidates tournament with a round to spare.
It had seen him qualify as the challenger in the World Chess Championship 2021 for the world championship title, one he went onto lose to defending champion Magnus Carlsen. Unfortunately, the defeat wasn't just a loss of the coveted title but also saw him lose out on what could have prospectively been a sumptuous night of electric sex.
