Food safety not an issue

8 State Bistro remains closed a week after city turned of the utilities when bills weren't paid, not because of a food safety and health issue.

Owner Kevin Campbell, in an email, said he'd been working with the city to pay the utility bill and keep the renovated restaurant open but ran short of funds.

"The utilities were shut off because I ran out of funds. The city worked with me for several months but it got to the point where I couldn't make payment.

As soon as power and water are cut off the health dept is notified," Campbell wrote in the email.

The Franklin County Health Department notice was a result of not having utilities, not a food safety issue at the restaurant according to Campbell.

A representative of the city said it would not comment about the shutoff saying "On matters pertaining to an individual business owner, we will not be making a statement. It's just not part of our normal practices with our businesses."

Campbell said he is working to resolve saying in the email, "If I can raise enough capital to get us open and have a little cushion we'll be in business."
